‘Twas a beautiful scorcher of a day… so naturally we hit up a huge open field! Cheslen Preserve can be challenging to shoot in direct sunlight, but with sneaky trees and shooting into the sun you can get some spectacular images. Here’s a few of our favourites.
There’s just something about the mother and son shots that get me. Elizabeth and Derek here bustin’ out the moves!
Protip: faces in shade, faces in shade, faces in shade. Unless you’re making a deliberate creative choice not to.
THEY HAVE. THE SAME. EARS.
Often you just know when an image should be black and white. It packs such an emotional punch if used at the right time.
This is going to be a favourite for a long time. The defocused flowers in the foreground give it that extra touch and the posing is just perfect.
We don’t often direct exact poses, and we didn’t do that here - we prefer to start a scene going and let you do your thing as naturally as possible, with a few little cues along the way. When things start happening you have to run with it!
I would like to offer my solemn thanks to this tree for being there in our time of need, providing both shade and a lovely natural frame. It’s really branching out in new creative directions.
Derek was such a good sport for this shoot. He also brought me many sticks, corn husks, and pebbles, for which I am eternally grateful.
